The same formula for every business. Full detail on our methodology page.
Who is ranked. An active listing, a phone number, a rating of at least 4.0 and 10 or more public reviews.
Ties. Scores show one decimal; on a tie, more recent reviews rank higher.
Corrections. Report a wrong number; we check the source within five working days.
Businesses can pay us for a claimed profile, leads or competitor reports. None of it touches the score or the order. If a business is a paying customer, its data profile says so. How we make money

Data note: a missing measure is scored on the evidence we have and flagged on the card. License checks shown are from public records on the date listed.
Public records that size the market. They show how busy a trade is, not how good a business is, so they are not part of the score.
Figures from public sources. Rows tagged "Sample figure" show what our live public-data feeds will supply; they are illustrative, not real counts. Public records size the market and are not part of the score.
Free. Only the businesses you tick receive it. We may earn a fee; it never changes a score.
Each business gets a score from its rating, review volume, recent reviews, years in business, profile completeness and record checks. The highest scores make the list. We compared 25 furnace installation & replacement companies for Tallahassee. Paid placements never change the order.
Tony Kelly Heating & Air Conditioning has a 5.0 rating from 1718 public reviews, the highest on this page.
Benson's Heating and Air Conditioning, with 2296 public reviews. A long review history shows how a business handles many jobs.
6 of the 10 businesses here had their state license checked against public records. Each profile shows the source and the date of the check.
