The same formula for every business. Full detail on our methodology page.
Who is ranked. An active listing, a phone number, a rating of at least 4.0 and 10 or more public reviews.
Ties. Scores show one decimal; on a tie, more recent reviews rank higher.

Data note: a missing measure is scored on the evidence we have and flagged on the card. License checks shown are from public records on the date listed.
Public records that size the market. They show how busy a trade is, not how good a business is, so they are not part of the score.
Figures from public sources. Rows tagged "Sample figure" show what our live public-data feeds will supply; they are illustrative, not real counts. Public records size the market and are not part of the score.
Free. Only the businesses you tick receive it. We may earn a fee; it never changes a score.
Each business gets a score from its rating, review volume, recent reviews, years in business, profile completeness and record checks. The highest scores make the list. We compared 3 plumbers for Portland.
EcoClean The Sewer & Drain Specialists has a 4.8 rating from 153 public reviews, the highest on this page.
Pine State Services, with 192 public reviews. A long review history shows how a business handles many jobs.
3 of the 3 businesses here had their state license checked against public records. Each profile shows the source and the date of the check.
